Author Guidelines

Dominguezia  is the official organ of the "Juan Aníbal Domínguez" Pharmacobotany Museum, of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry (University of Buenos Aires). It is published biannually in electronic version and is included in the Catalog of the Regional Online Information System for scientific journals from Latin America, the Caribbean, Spain and Portugal (Latindex). Its objective is the publication of unpublished works, articles and comments related to Pharmacobotany: plant anatomy and systematics of medicinal plants; In addition, contributions related to ethnopharmacobotany, pharmacognosy, pharmacology and toxicology of plants or their derived products, plant biotechnology, legislation and control of natural products, their history, or other topics that provide knowledge of medicinal, toxic, aromatic or food flora are accepted.

 

Types of Submissions:

Dominguezia publishes the following types of submissions:

• Original research papers, presenting the results of experimental or theoretical studies that have not been previously published or submitted simultaneously to another publication.
• Communications, which, like original research papers, must contain research results with objectives and brief descriptions. Comments and information related to professional and academic activity may also be included.
• Reviews, which may be by invitation or uninvited, must contain a critical discussion of studies on a particular topic or a group of related topics. Reviews can also provide the reader with an overview of new trends in studies related to the journal's areas of interest.
• Comments, which may include opinions, book reviews, publications, software programs, and bibliographic citations of interest for the knowledge of medicinal, toxic, or aromatic flora.
• A compilation of theses and Félix de Azara awards, briefly and precisely summarizing the relevant aspects of the original work.

Submissions, written in Spanish or English, must be sent using Dominguezia's OJS (Open Journal Systems) at https://ojs.dominguezia.org, which requires registration in the journal's system. For more information about the OJS system, please visit the Public Knowledge Project Author Help page.

The corresponding author will be notified of receipt of contributions via email. Submissions will be evaluated by the Scientific Committee. If corrections are deemed necessary that may affect the overall structure of the work, it will be returned to the authors for reconsideration. Once the work is accepted, the authors will transfer the copyright to Dominguezia for publication in any format.

Submissions that do not strictly adhere to the editorial guidelines will be returned to the authors for revision.

 

Submission Guidelines

General

Submissions must be printed on A4 paper, with approximately 2 cm margins on all four sides. Use Times New Roman or Arial font, 12-point size, double-spaced, and not right-aligned. Versions in LibreOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or PDF formats are acceptable.

Use the units, symbols, and abbreviations corresponding to the International System of Units (see: https://www.inti.gob.ar/areas/metrologia-y-calidad/si) and the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature (see: https://www.iapt-taxon.org/nomen/main.php).

 

Title

The title, in the original language of the work (Spanish or English), should be included on the first page. It should be sentence case, bold, and centered; it should be brief, concise, informative, and clearly state the content. Abbreviations, chemical formulas, symbols, or references should not be used.

The authors' names and affiliations should not be included in the text of the paper, as this information will be provided during the submission process using the OJS system.

 

Abstract and Keywords

An abstract in the original language of the paper, with a maximum of 300 words, must be submitted, followed by at least three keywords.

The English version of the title, abstract, and keywords must then be submitted. If English is the original language of the paper, the Spanish version must also be submitted.

It is recommended that the paper be divided into sections (Introduction, Materials and Experimental Section/Methods, Results, Discussion, References).

 

Introduction

The development of the state of the art of the topic addressed, with relevant bibliographic references. The objective of the submitted work must be clearly stated in this context.

 

Materials and Experimental Section/Methods

Presentation of the materials used in the experiment, and description of the equipment, techniques, and analytical conditions employed. If applicable, include specific information concerning special analytical techniques (histological sections, staining, bioassays, etc.) or isolation, purification, structural aspects, etc., which may be described with subheadings.

 

Results

The results should be presented clearly and concisely. Irrelevant information, technical details, and repetitions should be avoided.

 

Discussion

The discussion section is for the critical analysis and interpretation of the data obtained in the study, comparing them with previous research, explaining the possible causes of the findings, and discussing the limitations. The Discussion section should include the conclusion of the work, which summarizes the main findings, directly addresses the objectives or hypotheses, and provides an overview of the study's contribution, serving as the logical conclusion of the research.

 

References

References should appear in the text with the author's last name and the year of publication in parentheses. For two authors, both last names should be listed (Paris & Moyse, 1965). For more than two authors, the first author's last name should be followed by "et al." (e.g., Varela et al., 2000).

References should be submitted in a separate file, not at the end of the text. They should be listed alphabetically by the first author's last name. Authors should be listed by their last name followed by their initials without spaces. Do not use the conjunction "and" for the last author. Reference abbreviations should follow ISO 4 (Information and documentation – Rules for the abbreviation of title words and titles of publications), an International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standard that defines a uniform system for abbreviating the titles of scientific journals. Illustrations

Illustrations (tables, graphs, charts, figures, maps, photographs) should be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals, according to their order of appearance in the text. Any illustration that is not a table should be referred to generically as a “Figure.” Each illustration should be submitted as a separate file, labeled (Figure 1, Table 1, etc.).

 

Graphics in General

Charts, figures, maps, drawings, and photographs may be submitted in grayscale or color. The recommended file format for black and white, grayscale, or color images is TIFF/TIF (Tagged Image File Format) or JPG/JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group), while for vector graphics, the recommended format is EPS (Encapsulated PostScript). When submitting TIFF or JPG files, ensure you use the correct resolution: black and white illustrations, a minimum of 300 dpi; grayscale or color illustrations, a minimum of 300 dpi. For text within vector graphics, the recommended fonts are Arial, Helvetica, Courier, Times New Roman, and Symbol; otherwise, the fonts used must be included. Tables and figures created with MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, LibreOffice Calc, or LibreOffice Impress must be submitted in their original format (XLS, XLSX, PPT, PPTX, ODS, or ODP).

Once the print size and resolution have been set, either during scanning or when saving with image editing software, the resolution cannot be increased without negatively impacting quality. If the resolution is too low, the image will appear jagged, stepped, or pixelated.

Graphics, charts, figures, maps, drawings, or photos embedded in text files (e.g., a photo in a text file such as MS Word) will not be accepted because they do not meet the required resolution.

References for all illustrations must be submitted in a separate text file, including the illustration number, its concise and clear title, and any relevant references.
