Abstract

A record of the genus Opuntia previously included within the intraspecific variation of Opuntia rioplatensis Font is described as a new species. Morphological relationships with related species are discussed. Some aspects of the synonymy and specific
limits of Opuntia series Armatae (= ser. Elatae) are updated.
